Valentine's Day: A Note to the Ones that are Anti-Valentine's Like ME!
If you're reading this, it's because you are anti-Valentine's Day...like myself, or maybe you are just curious as to what I have to say. Let me just say this first: there has never been a memory I can recall that turned me to disliking Valentine's, it's just how I have always been.
WARNING: Not everyone will agree with my opinions below.
Don't get me wrong, I am a sucker for romance, however, I don't think love should be celebrated on one specific day. First of all, this day is beyond stressful. Finding a place that actually has reservations is nearly impossible. Also, going through the struggle of whether or not you should buy a gift, get them their favorite candy, flowers, or DIY something makes me so nervous (especially if the relationship is new and/or undefined).
I believe if you're with someone you care about, whether you are married, engaged, or dating, there should be affection shown all the time. If you like going above and beyond on Valentine's, then I am happy for you but that's just not my cup of tea.
My ideal Valentine's would be no different than any other date I would hope to have. I appreciate a boujee meal, flowers, and gifts, but it's not my initial thought of something I must have. Y'all might give me crap for this...but I am not a fan of red roses and chocolate. I would be perfectly happy cooking a delicious meal and snuggling up on the couch watching a movie with my man, or keeping the date simple and casual. Although, if a special night is planned, I would be extremely appreciative and feel so special and so blessed.
All I am saying is I think it is silly to expect an extravagant evening. At the end of the day, being with the one you care about or love is and should be fulfilling. You have enjoy the little moments and memories that are made along the way. As cheesy as this is going to sound, what will be remembered is who I am with and how I felt in those moments shared.
If you disagree with me, then that's okay! This is just how I personally feel about Valentine's Day.
